But if you buy one new and sell it in a year or two, it's going to cost you more money than the money you saved on gas. Hybrids don't require any special maintenance different than a regular car. They still require all the same stuff like oil changes, new tires, brakes, etc. And in addition, after anywhere from 6-10 years, you may be looking at needing to replace the batteries. This is very expensive, anywhere from $2000-$5000 or so depending on the model. So after crunching all the numbers, hybrids may or may not save you any money at all. The tire should be rotated every 7,500 miles. At 15,000 miles the oil filter should be checked for corrosion if you live in an area that has high humidity or uses salt to treat the roads for snow and ice. These are just few examples of what should be performed on a Chevrolet Volt hybrid vehicle.
