Question about car maintenance (1997 Toyota Camry)?

Ronny Nowzari: You don't have a serpentine belt. On a Camry you have the timing belt and three accessory belts (alternator, power steering, and A/C belts). The timing belt is behind a removable cover attached to the side of the engine; The other belts are external and you can see them when you look under your hood. All of them need replacing at 60,000 miles. That is part of the timing belt service which also includes replacing your waterpump, cam and crank seals. the reason this is all recommended to be done all at once is because you have to take off the other belts to replace the timing belt plus the seals mentioned and the waterpump are behind the timing belt cover so replacing all of this at once will save you hundreds of dollars in the long run. Timing belt service is generally between $500-600 depending on the car and the shop. Still if you save a few bucks to get just the belt changed now, you will spend more in labor by spending the money labor to replace the other! items when they go bad....Show more
