Secondary Education?

Nilda Bafia: As an ESL instructor you probable won't have any subject concerns getting a job in the two direction. common is saturated with maximum of human beings searching for artwork. it may additionally be confusing to get a secondary place considering that there are not as lots of them often. individually, i like the little munchkins greater suitable yet some all of us is meant to be secondary instructors. carry out a little observations to work out what you like greater.

Gerardo Greist: It depends on the state you're in and your degree. Some states just require you to take the test once you're already certified in another subject, like Florida, but some require the coursework, like Virginia. Check your state's Department of Education web site to know for sure.

Hilton Paiva: I think it depends if you have a degree in English and then if you can pass a certified test like the psat in that topic.

Katheryn Skrobacki: In Michigan, you have to get an a! dditional endorsement on your teaching certificate to teach in the opposite certificate area. (i.e. you have to get an secondary endorsement on an elementary certificate to teach at a secondary level). It would require a few more classes in teaching at the secondary level. One other thing you would need is an english endorsement as well. If you already have one for the elementary level, it would carry over to the secondary level with the secondary endorsement. If you do not already have an english endorsement with your elementary teaching certification, you would have to have enough credits in english to meet the subject area requirements for an english endorsement or take the classes you were deficient in. (In Michigan, you have to have a subject area endorsement even with elementary certification, but some states do not require it. If you don't have it already, you would have to get it). Some states also require you to do another student teaching assignment at the other ! level (secondary in your case), some do not.It depends and var! ies greatly by state, however. You would need to check with your state's department of education to be certain. It might be a little extra work, but shouldn't be too bad. If it is something you want to do, do it. It is something you will be doing for the rest of your life; better to invest a little time now for the rest to be more enjoyable.I had math and physics endorsements, but I am adding a general science endorsement. With school cutbacks, districts here want to hire teachers with general subject endorsements over single subject endorsements because it allows them to be more flexable in assigning classes with less staff. That Is why I am not able to get a teaching assignment in physics except for summer programs. I would much rather teach physics over math and would be much happier in physics. That is why I'm adding general science. Even with the extra classes I have to take, I am extreamly happy I did....Show more
