What is the success rate of kids who are home schooled in Canada? ?

Carolynn Testani: I'm not sure where the statistics above come from, but home schooled students in the US score better than their public school peers according to statistics. A 1998 study of 20,760 home schooled students showed they scored better than their peers. There were just over 1million home schooled students that year in the US. The statistics show home schooling's success, but they couldn't be called a measure of a success rate, because of the statically small group. I don't know about Canada, but most states here don't require testing, so it is impossible to know the true success rate. Some home schooled kids don't take the tests. The rates of home schooled students at many US universities mirror their numbers in the population of schooled kids, or 2-3% of the classes. I really believe that to be a successful home schooled student, the child needs some intrinsic motivation. If your son has more time to pursue his interests, perhaps he'll find that motiv! ation. The fact that he doesn't have that now would indicate he would need more guidance. I've also looked at the test results of one of the on-line charter schools in California (a public online school) and their 10th grades score above the state average in language arts but below the state average in math. A lot of home school advocates say that online public school really isn't home schooling, but those students are still studying at home. I think you're wise to look at this critically. Home schooling isn't a one sized fits all solution, to spite what you'll read here. A lot of people seem to think that home schooling is superior in every situation and for every student, probably because it confirms their choices. On the other side, there are opponents who believe that it is always a bad decision and that all home schooled students are stunted. I believe there are very successful home schooled students, and perhaps a greater percentage of home schooled students a! re successful, but that not all are....Show more

Trena B! erum: The Fraser Institute in Canada did an in-depth study of homeschooling last year, with some very good results. They show quantitatively that homeschooling is generally a positive experience, resulting in well educated, active, productive students who show good citizenship. The report is quite detailed and an entertaining read.

Clement Viscarro: idk but kids in america are on average 27% smarter in math and either science or reading then kids who go to regular school.
