Donte Hamme: Tivo is a DVR. Tivo brand DVR's are often considered to be the best by most people. You could buy a separate Tivo DVR to work with your Dish receiver, but you would have to pay an additional monthly subscription fee to Tivo, or you could just buy the Dish brand DVR which would not charge an additional fee because you are already paying Dish a monthly fee for programing.
Donella Vasta: For you, I'd recommend the Dish DVR.You will get dual tuner, for HD it will record HD, and expansion is supported, and will record at the broadcast quality and bit rate.The TiVo you would use with satellite records/plays only SD, and re-encodes the video to a higher bit rate, so consumes more disk space for a comparable SD recording. While the TiVo you use for satellite can be expanded, expansion is not supported by TiVo. TiVo shines in its guide based recording features, especially season pass and Wish list.The Music and More features are included with the TiVo subscripti! on, although some features have extra fees.I don't bother with them....Show more
